Highways England

As we are approaching the final phase of the Black Dam Improvement scheme, I am writing to advise you of planned overnight closures to resurface sections of

the roundabout and approach roads.  These works will be carried out between 10pm and 5am as follows:

to

Tuesday 26 January

A30 London Road westbound

A30 Ringway South westbound

M3 Spur north and southbound

Southern section of Black Dam Roundabout

Signed diversion routes will be in place at these times.

These resurfacing works are expected to generate noise.  We will take measures to reduce this as much as possible but apologise for any disturbance caused.

In addition to the above, the Black Dam junction will be fully closed from 10pm on Friday 5 February to 5am on Monday 8 February.  This will allow final work to the new carriageway to be carried out in advance of the full opening of the junction on the Monday morning.  We will write to you again nearer the time to confirm details and diversion routes.

Additional tasks including landscaping will be completed using off-peak daytime lane closures and are expected to take three weeks.  This will be followed by the seeding of the newly-landscaped areas which is planned for March, when temperatures will have risen to allow germination.

Details of this project are available on the Highways England website:  www.highways.gov.uk/m3blackdam.  Please subscribe to the scheme to receive email alerts when the information is updated.

For further information on other planned improvements taking place in Basingstoke, visit: www.basingstoke.gov.uk/go/highwayimprovements and http://www3.hants.gov.uk/transport.

I would like to apologise in advance for any disturbance or inconvenience caused by the works and would emphasise that our contractors work to strict procedures to ensure minimal noise at night.

FED UP OF THE TRAIN COMMUTE FROM BASINGSTOKE TO LONDON?

Are you disillusioned by overcrowding on both the morning and evening train commute, along with poor customer service, inadequate parking facilities at the station and ultimately not getting value for money?

You may be aware that the Government has launched a public consultation to shape plans for future rail improvements, asking for our views on what the next operator of the South Western franchise (operating between Basingstoke and London Waterloo) should do to deliver the rail services that people want.

As a daily train commuter from Basingstoke to London, I have been approached to form a focus group to meet with Maria Miller MP Basingstoke to brainstorm what we want the rail companies to address in terms of bidding for the new franchise. Maria has called for a new ‘Commuters Charter’ for Basingstoke rail users – you can read  more by clicking on this link.

If you are a rail commuter from Basingstoke to London Waterloo and would interested in joining this focus group to improve our daily commute or would like any further information on what the work would entail then please contact me on 07973 826003 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
