The Avenue – the last stages of work …

This week (w/c 25th May) the contractors will be finishing the tactile paving and making changes to some cable ducts for the new street lighting. This will require use of temporary lights and reducing traffic to ‘single file’ in places. The 14 new street light columns and 4 illuminated street signs will be installed by the lighting service contractor GTC, during week commencing 1st June. Once the lights are in place the wearing course (final top layer of tarmac) for the footpaths will be laid w/c 8th June.

The wearing course along the length of the road has been arranged to start following completion of the street lighting and pavements etc. The main section of the road will be completed over two days – Wednesday 17th – Thursday 18th June.

This work will be done in two stages – in keeping with the original Phase 1 (section from Pumphouse Way mini roundabout to Dinwoodie Avenue) and Phase 2 (Dinwoodie Avenue to the maternity block access road). In other words, during these two days the road will again be closed as a through road with appropriate traffic signs as used previously.

The final section of road (the section covered by the previous Phase 3-5) i.e. up to the Lodge building, is potentially the most disruptive and therefore the surfacing contractor will carry out this work on Friday night (19th) from 7pm onwards.
